Scholarship Opportunities
Scholarships offered through the Supreme Council are just part of the K of C's story. Our more than 14,000 local councils and assemblies provide $6 million in scholarships and academic awards a year to students in their communities.

Scholarships for students attending colleges and universities in Mexico, the Philippines and Puerto Rico are administered by the respective jurisdiction.
College Scholarships
For the 2008-09 academic year, the Knights of Columbus awarded scholarships totaling more than $1.5 million to 687 students.
Most recipients are the children of Knights or Knights working toward bachelor’s degrees at Catholic colleges and Catholic universities in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Philippines.
These figures include $275,000 in grants to 110 seminarians in the United States and Canada.
Scholarship Eligibility
An applicant must meet the following qualifications:
1.Entering freshman year of an undergraduate program leading to a bachelor's degree at a Catholic college or Catholic university in the United States.
2.A member in good standing of the Knights of Columbus, the son or daughter of such a member or deceased member, or a member in good standing of the Columbian Squires.

The Order’s largest scholarship programs for college undergraduates in the United States are:
• Fourth Degree Pro Deo and Pro Patria Scholarships
• John W. McDevitt (Fourth Degree) Scholarships
Scholarship Applications
U.S. applicants must apply to a Catholic college or Catholic university.
Undergraduate scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen and are normally renewed for a total of four years.
Scholarship applications are available after Oct. 1.
Deadline for completed applications for U.S. undergraduate students is March 1.
Deadline for completed applications for Canadian undergraduate students is May 1.

Other Scholarship Programs
Endowed Scholarships
The Knights of Columbus offers a limited number of endowed scholarships provided from earnings of funds established in the donors’ names. In accepting these gifts, the Order’s Board of Directors voted to administer endowed scholarships in conformance with the rules of the Fourth Degree Pro Deo and Pro Patria Scholarship program, subject to the donors’ wishes.
Matthews and Swift Educational Trust Scholarships
Delegates to the 62nd Supreme Council Meeting in August, 1944 voted to establish an Educational Trust Fund by the raising of $1 million through a special per capita tax on the members of the Order.
Sister Thea Bowman Foundation-Knights of Columbus Scholarships
In 1996, the Order’s Board of Directors partnered with the Sister Thea Bowman Black Educational Foundation to establish a four-year grant to support deserving African-American students pursuing a Catholic college education.
Vocations Scholarships
The Supreme Council administers two scholarship programs for students in the first four years of theology pursuing a vocation to the priesthood.
Fellowships at The Catholic University of America
The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., provides Knights of Columbus Fellowships for graduate study leading to a master’s degree or doctorate.
Bishop Charles P. Greco Graduate Fellowships
Established in 1973, the Bishop Charles P. Greco Graduate Fellowship Trust offers fellowships for full-time graduate study leading to a master’s degree in a program designed for the preparation of classroom teachers for people with intellectual disabilities.
Vocational Scholarships
Father McGivney and Bishop Daily Vocations Scholarships
Two vocations scholarship programs, the Father Michael J. McGivney Vocations Scholarships Fund and Bishop Thomas V. Daily Vocations Scholarships Fund provide scholarships to students in the first four years of theology pursuing a vocation to the priesthood.
For the 2007-08 academic year, 34 new Father McGivney scholarships were awarded to 28 U.S. and six Canadian seminarians enrolled in 25 major schools of theology. The seminarians are studying for 24 U.S. dioceses, five Canadian dioceses and four religious institutes. In addition to the new scholarships, 59 were renewed.
For the 2007-08 academic year, Bishop Daily vocations scholarships went to nine U.S. and two Canadian seminarians enrolled in 11 major schools of theology. The seminarians are studying for seven U.S. dioceses, two Canadian dioceses and two religious institutes. In addition to the new scholarships, 20 were renewed.
In each program, preference is given to members or sons of members. Grants are renewable annually for up to four years. The Father McGivney scholarships are awarded on the basis of need, while the Bishop Daily scholarships are merit-based.

Each grant of $2,500 for tuition, room and board is renewable up to a maximum of four years upon evidence of continued enrollment and eligibility. The scholarship is not in effect during any year of pastoral internship.
An applicant having appropriate ecclesiastical approval, accepted at a major seminary and studying for a diocese or religious institute in the United States, its territories, or Canada is eligible. Preference is given, but is not limited to, applicants who are members of the Knights of Columbus or who are the sons of Knights.
Bishop Thomas V. Daily Scholarships Fund

Each grant of $2,500 for tuition, room and board is renewable up to a maximum of four years upon evidence of continued enrollment and eligibility. The scholarship is not in effect during any year of pastoral internship.
An applicant having appropriate ecclesiastical approval, accepted at a major seminary and studying for a diocese or religious institute in the United States, its territories, or Canada is eligible. Preference is given, but is not limited to, applicants who are members of the Knights of Columbus or who are the sons of Knights.
